A great race report from Ruth Pollard…
Darlington 10k
If you’re chasing a 10k PB, then this is the race for you. If you’re looking for an atmospheric road race with loads of support along the route, then this is also the race for you!
Darlington did itself proud on Sunday 2nd August. They’ve created a whole running festival, with a choice of races: the 10k, 5k, junior 3k and a family fun run, and the town centre was buzzing with runners and supporters. With over 2500 finishers for the 10k alone, it needs to be well organised, and well organised it was, with opportunities to collect race numbers in advance from a couple of shops, making things quicker and easier on the day.
It was my third time at the race, and each time has been a PB! I always think of it as being flat and fast, but then when I’m running I remember it’s not as flat as I think it is! (Only 210ft of climb though, so it’s not much!!)
The support was evident all the way round, with the obligatory samba band, children with cowbells and offerings of sweets and orange segments for those who wanted them. There was no chance to be bored!
There were 6 of us Harriers (only 4 for the photo – sorry!):
Laura Wilson 47:34
Paul Atkinson 47:44
Blair Wallace 49:25
Ruth Pollard 52:11
Kirsty Naylor 55:30
Joe Joyce 55:30
