Sunday 26 July saw the second year of the new Easingwold 10k. The race built on the strength of last year and 646 runners completed the event. The organisation was fantastic with pre-race information, plenty of signage for parking, slick registration at the Galtres Centre and lots of marshals out and about helping and supporting runners. There was a fantastic community atmosphere in the market square with a stage, DJ, brass band, ice cream and other food stalls. The day was hot and course is quite undulating. The first 5km is pretty much a slow uphill until the turnaround point after Crayke Lane and then there is a sneaky little hill also at 8k. However, there is plenty of support along the way and water stations at two points to help cool down. A lovely ‘E’ medal at the end and a nice encouragement from the crowd. A very pleasant 10k run on closed roads.
Fantastic runs by everyone involved. The Thirsk and Sowerby men’s team won the team prize including Tom Levi who was first male harrier in 35:31 and 5th overall and first in age category. Paul Peacock in 38:17 and first in age category, Gary Dunn in 38:28 and Ashley Dogson in 39:28. The women’s team came second overall and included: Esther Harrison in 40:15 who was 3rd female overall and 1st in age category, Anna Jones in 47:55, Trudy Morrice in 48:01 and Lorraine Hiles in 49:17

Helen Ashworth, kindly provided some comments on the race:
On Sunday 26 July 46 Harriers took part in the Easingwold 10km on a breezy humid morning. It was a great turnout and 20 years since Helen Ashworth had competed in the race when the numbers of runners was around 100 compared to over 500 in 2026. Running is a much more popular sport today. In 2006 Helen had recently taken up running after doing the Race for Life 5km with friends and was her first ever 10km. She completed it in 61 minutes and on Sunday got a PB of 53:29.
Several other Harriers got personal bests too: Adey Wood; Carol Longmire; Christina Leach; Esther Harrison; Zoe Lawrence which is brilliant considering the road route is undulating.
