A bumper club turnout at the Gormire Gamble, marshals as well as runners, entered the Gormire Gamble, race 5 in the Dave Parry Summer Series.  Going underfoot was quite good in spite of the damp, muggy conditions, starting on road and with some serious ups and downs and a stretch along the Cleveland Way – testing for many members who were doing their first fell race!  Once again, Tom Levi was first club finisher, 6th in 43.12, with Andy Price 12th in 45.01, Freddy Wharton 18th, and 1st MU23, in 47.07, Josh Cooper 23rd in 48.01, Esther Harrison 34th, and 2nd open lady, in 49.16, Richard Grant 35th in 49.22, Gary Wilkinson 40th in 50.11, Cameron Balmain 45th, and 2nd MU23, in 51.01, Ken Wood 54th in 53.03, new member, Chris Coates, 63rd in 55.17, Rob Burn 64th, and 2nd M65, in 55.29, Bronwyn Mayo 64th, and 3rd F40, in 56.18, Rosamund Kruger 72nd in 57.27 and Joe O'Keeffe 74th in 57.45.  Mike Lowther took 58.06, David Fawkes 58.21, Lorraine Hiles, 1st F55, in 58.26, Gary Bastow 58.36, Joe Joyce 59.16, David Tervit 63.39, Mark Knowlson 64.10, Lindsey Collins 64.18, David Mould 67.00, Lucy Sillars, 3rd F45 in 68.14, Faith Coy 3rd F50 in 72.54. Martyn Coy 73.09, Janet Balmain 73.13, Alan Docherty 73.18, Lynne Jackson 2nd F55 in 74.31, Will Jagger 74.59, Tracey Docherty 75.14, Louise McVay 76.59, Ken Evitt 77.42, Steve Billings 79.22, Sara Armitage 79.46, Alison Butcher 80.03, Carol Thompson, in her first ever fell race, 2nd F65 in 80.25, Beth Haggath 1st FU23 in 83.27, Margaret Wikeley 1st F70 in 84.03, Christine Burn 84.46, Denise Gandy 96.58, Phillip Craig 97.52, and Alan Wikeley 2nd M75 in 102.37.  “You've got to be in it to win it!” The younger runners, Freddy Wharton, Cameron Balmain and Beth Haggath swept the board with the Under 23 prizes.  Both the Men's and Women's teams came 2nd in the team competitions, with B teams 5th and 4th respectively.  Very well done everyone, in a real toughie race, and thanks and congratulations to Alan Simpsom, Trudy Morrice and Marc Davies for organising the event.

Not quite as tough, but certainly tough enough, was the Harrogate 10k at the weekend, quite a bit off-road in the Crimple Valley, and plenty of undulations.  Gary Wilkinson made light of conditions managing to achieve a personal PB time of 41.21 in 53rd place out of a field of 741.  Allison Whiteley came 450th in 58.41 and Craig Atherton 458th in 58.53.

Several members were involved in the Thirsk School Colour Run where it is deemed fun to be sprayed with colour paint and water as you go around.  (I'm assured the colour washes off!)  A good donation was made to charity after the event, which club member, Ben Morgan, was involved in organising.
