On Sunday 2nd November, it was the annual Guy Fawkes 10-mile race, hosted by Nidd Valley Road Runners and supported by Up & Running.  This year there was a new race base in the lovely town of Pateley Bridge, about ten miles further up Nidderdale instead of the previous home in Ripley.  The new route takes runners through the village of Bewerley, out on the road towards Glasshouses, and then takes in the farm track on the south of the river Nidd towards Darce Banks. Things then get interesting as you climb to Dacre and further up onto the moor top. You then run round Heyshaw and Nought Moor before a thrilling descent back into Bewerley with a final climb back to the finish line.

Kirsty Naylor kindly provided a race report for the event.  Read on for more…Sunday 2nd of November was the guy fawkes 10 mile race, a well established race.. but a new course for 2025… ( still a nice long sleeved T shirt and bag of various choice bars in the goody bag ).  Seven harriers took part in a field of 677 finishers.  David Tervit was the first harrier home in 1.34.23, followed by Sarah Harrison 1.37.05, kirsty Naylor 1.38.01, Anna Whitham 1.41.39, Elizabeth Wordsworth1.45.37, Chris Wordsworth 1.47.19, Alan Docherty 1.56.08.

The new route now starts and finishes on Pateley Bridge show ground, plenty of parking and toilet facilities.  The new route starts with a sharp uphill out of the showground, with approximately 1100 feet of elevation over the next 8 miles ( lots of long slow hills)  the last 2 miles are fast and furious downhill, making the new route just as challenging as the old one.  A really good race and I would advise anyone to give it a go (plus you get a nice long sleeved tshirt at the end!)
