The second race in two weeks in the HDSRL Series took place at Ilkley on Thursday evening, with 15 club members present out of the 366 finishers. The evening was pleasant enough for the race of about 5 miles, which starts from Ilkley Rugby Club before a long, long uphill pull, from where it levels off along back lanes and then a long downhill, finishing along  the road back to the club.  The evergreen, ever present, Paul Peacock was first club finisher 40th, and 2nd M60, in 32.14. Next came Josh Cooper, 105th in 36.07 and Pedro Carrasco 204th in 41.28, with Martyn Coy a minute behind in 42.28. Kirsty Naylor was first club lady, 250th in 44.11 and others taking part were Alan Docherty, Stuart Hill, Kelly Grieve, Liz Wordsworth, Sara Armitage, Tracey Docherty, Faith Coy, Chris Wordsworth, Louise McVay and Beth Haggath.

The previous weekend, Liz and Chris Wordsworth, along with Trish Radford, were in Norway for the Midnight Sun Marathon and Half Marathon respectively.  Usually in a race, you get up, have breakfast and then set off for your run. On this occasion, you had the day to put in before the start of the marathon, 8.30pm and half marathon, 10.30 pm, and had to try to pace yourself! The race starts and finishes in Tromso city centre, heading over the bridge after 2k and rising from 6m to 43 metres above sea level. Beautiful scenery and generally quiet roads were the order of the day, and Liz took a very creditable 5.18.03, with Trish, trying to recover after an injured knee, 5.50.52. Chris did the half marathon.

Not to be outdone, Rob and Christine Burn were in South Africa among the 425 for the flat Paarl Park parkrun. It being winter there, the temperature was 10 degrees for an 8 am start on an out and back course which went on tracks through the arboretum and by the river. Rob took 23.06 and Christine 34.25.
