Marc and Bev Davies were on holiday in Tynemouth so intended going to the nearby Whitley Bay parkrun but it was cancelled – not a beached whale but assume the fun fair at Spanish City. The Metro made light work of getting to the next nearest at Rising Sun Countryside Centre.

A popular all off road venue that attracts quite large numbers but perhaps swelled by Whitley Bay being off – a few runners had diverted.

Unusually it’s a one lap lollipop course and the majority is cinder tracks with just a short minor raise through woods. Quite scenic but enclosed by hedges in the main.

It’s not a course for PBs as the start leads to a long narrow section with not much room for manoeuvre. As the long straights appeared it was runners as far as you could see like the start of the local Great North.

Marc ran in support of Bev and as it was her first run for a long time she was just happy to complete in 366th of 442 in a time of 38:35 (much time was lost in congestion at the start however)

It was very warm, dry and dusty but as always great support and comraderie and the café at the end over delivered by way of reward!

Recommended if you’re in the area.
