It’s getting darker earlier on a night but we just keep going. Here are the latest training details for the coming week.

Sunday 20th September. 11am. Beckbusters 10k trail race. Yet another club championship race.   I’ve been told I will like this one so I just had to enter it. I’m told it’s flat and fast with a water splash just before the finish. If it’s really dry I’ll opt to running in road shoes as I’m not too happy with the trail shoes I have at the moment. Run in what makes you feel good and you can’t go far wrong.
Monday 21st September. 6.45 – 7.00 pm start. Monthly two mile time trial.
CHANGE OF VENUE
Due to the fair arriving on the flatts this morning the monthly time trial is at Sowerby gateway (2 laps). Sorry for the last minute change but it was unknown to us.
Wednesday 23rd September. 6.45- 7pm start. It’s another big one so mind how you go. Perfect for getting you into xcountry shape to cope with the winter ahead. Yes. You will enjoy this one too.
Warm up: 10-15 mins
Main session:  2 x ( 6 x 2 mins / 1 min recovery) 2 mins between sets
Easy pace if you ran hard at the Beckbusters 10k and the Time Trial.
5k pace  if you didn’t race at the weekend. Roll your sleeves up and just get on with it.
Cool down: 5-10 min easy run and stretches.

Sunday 27th September. Noon. Yorkshire Veterans xcountry Championships, Penistone.
We have 12 runners entered all ready to give it a go. This is the first xcountry of the season and I’m sure it’s going to be fast. The course is undulating but not steep. There are no easy bits and it’s foot to the floor all the way. Everyone is in good shape and I’m sure they will all do the club proud. Don’t forget your club vests!!

 Breaking News!!
The children of Siankaba, Zambia ( remember we provided food for then earlier this year)  now have a bore hole in their school grounds. They now have water, flush toilets and showers and no longer need to wash in the Zambezi. I seen a few posts of them growing their own food also during their time at school. When you have to carry water a mile, like all children there is a tendency of not wanting to wash.  Now they have no excuse.

I mentioned last week that my training was a little fragmented but I was recovering well and running quite strong. Last weekend at Millfield I clocked my fastest age adjusted percentage of the year. It wasn’t expected, it felt rather easy and I really enjoyed it. Think how you felt when you last ran a pb then you will know exactly how I felt.  Sometimes things do happen when least expected.

So you think taking up running is going to be cheap ?
I buy in the region of 5 pairs of running shoes per year. Please don’t tell Christine because I’m sure it could be more. I keep one pair for indoor training. Another pair just for racing and a couple of pairs to rotate for training. I also have a pair of trail shoes which I use on the hills and I’m sure I have a pair of shoes hung up in the garage that I’ve only worn once because I don’t like how they feel when I run in them. They probably looked good in the shop and I really liked the colour. I once threw a p;air of new shoes in the bin because they gave me blisters. After another training session I took off my club top and my shoes and gave them to the person I’d been running with. At a rough guess my shoes cost me in the region of £800 a year which works out at almost £1 per mile. Maybe 150 to 200 mile per shoe. If there is still wear in my shoes when I finish with them then I either give them away to a friend , to charity or distribute them to runners when we go on holiday. Christine and I also sponsor a runner in South Africa too. Why do I buy so many shoes? I just love the feeling of standing on the start line wearing a new pair of shoes. If you can’t run fast then at least you can look good.
If you think this is a little bit excessive but it gets worse. You have to remember running is addictive and we run just to feel good. Christine and I stopped all thoughts of building an extension on the side of our house and went to run in Australia instead. At another time we sold a house to go to run in Antarctica. Seven continents and over fifty different countries later we still haven’t build that extension.
And it all started when someone asked me if I fancied to going out for a run!!!

Be careful out there. Keep smiling and see you all soon, Rob
