Dave Baker on his RED January trail
In December, we had Duncan Fothergill doing his RED December and now we have Dave Baker doing RED January, (Run Every Day) in January.  Dave has committed himself to run at least 2 miles a day, and so far, after a pouring wet Monday, he is up to 96 miles, well above his target.  Dave is a postman and what better occupation than to aim for 2 miles, even on a wet day, taking a selfie with a different post box each day?  As I write this, still in January, he will surely have completed 100 miles by the end- very well done.

Those who do park runs do 3.2 miles each time, and 23 members were involved on Saturday in widespread events from local Fountains Abbey, Northallerton, Millfield and Thorp Perrow to Norwich, (Natalie Lythe), Bracknell, (Martin Loveridge), Sedgefield, (Pete Jackson), Temple Newsham, (Nicky Hawkes), Druridge Bay, (Richard Soper), Beverley West, (Martyn Coy), and Oakwell, (Allison Whiteley and Craig Atherton), and judging by their times of 62.57 and 62.58, I guess this was a toughie!

Esther Harrison, at Millfield, came 7th out of 202, 7th finisher and 1st lady, in 23.03.  Laura Rodmell, in a field of 468, did a PB, 30.04, at Fountains Abbey, and Richard Grant was 4th out of 82 at a muddy Thorp Perrow in PB 20.39, with his wife, Tessa. joining him to take 30.20 in her 7th park run.
.
Much further afield, in Bavaria, Pedro Carrasco entered the Maintal Cross Country Championships, doing a 5k distance in Kemmem, a small village near Nurnberg.  In a field of 650 on a sunny day with 3 degree temperature, he took 24.42, and was 11th M65 finisher.

Another reminder to get your entry in for the Thirsk 10 on March 17th, 10 am start, with a wheelchair race starting 10 minutes earlier.  The fast, flat road race, based at the Racecourse, enables runners to do a PB time and, with plentiful and supportive marshals,  also allows for runners new to the game to test themselves over this distance for the first time.  Refreshments are, of course, available, and a with an off-road fun run beforehand at 9am, there is something for everyone!
