When: Monday 29th August: Time: 6.45 for 7pm Where: Sowerby Gateway Yes, I know it’s Bank Holiday but some people want run so run they can!! Light core work and short intervals. No potatoes tonight I believe.
When: Wednesday 31st August Time: 6.45 for 7pm Where: Sowerby Gateway Light core and drills. 5 x 3 mins @ strong, even 10k pace/ 1min recovery. This session is for us all to get used to us all running together once again while there is still a little daylight left. We will soon be back to head torches and several layers of clothing, when we step outside it will be even worse!!!
Winter training In just over a couple of weeks time we start winter training. Here is what is happening from now until Christmas so all coaches can cover the training sessions and we can also plan our training during this period: There will be an inside and outside training on a Monday and a Wednesday night. At half term and during the Christmas period we all train together.
Monday Inside: Thirsk School Gym. Andy B. Core work and drills Wednesday Inside: Thirsk School Sports Hall. Paul G. Core work, drills and intensive intervals. Jody to bob backwards and forwards to cover both sessions.
Monday Outside: Gateway. Light core work and short intervals Wednesday Outside: Gateway. light core work, long intervals. Bronwyn and Tom to sort between them. Rob (me) and Walter (I’ve not asked him yet but I’m sure he’ll help out!!) to cover and help out when and as required. Leaders to please help out and to make coaching numbers up to cover all training sessions. Due to such large numbers now attending training we need six coaches/leaders each at training session.
We only have six senior fully qualified coaches within the club and we are trying to cover four training sessions a week. Equally, we have around a similar number of level one leaders. It’s not many to cover all these sessions. There is not much room for error and if anyone is on holiday, injured etc we are not adequately covered for insurance purposes and also not able to put out a properly structured training session. Is there anyone out there who could chip in and give a little help from time to time? The Club will pay for you to get qualified, you may enjoy it more than you think. See me at training. One person has come forward so far.
I am a big believer in that if we have a good number of people doing a little bit it is better than one or two people doing a lot. It spreads the load, it’s more fun and a lot less pressure and worry and a lot more happy, smiley faces all round. We need two committed volunteers to take registration for inside training, I will take responsibility for the outside group. Once again you can see me at training.
It sounds complicated but it’s not. If we all work together and help one another everything will be fine. Won’t, don’t can’t and too busy are not words I’m too familiar with and if we all think along the same lines it will be Christmas before we know it.
Training has been a little less intense and more relaxed this past month or so but soon it will be time to build and increase once again. Training will be structured and will increase in intensity at all levels as we move into September. Look forward to the challenge, Rob Social Runs (these are not coached sessions and run at your own risk) Tuesday nights. 6.30pm meet at Leisure Centre Approx 5 miles around Thirsk, route decided on the night. Thursday Nights -KFC (Kilburn Fell Club) Routes usually around 6 – 7 miles, as off-road as possible, so expect mud/technical terrain. We do re-group. Possible pub visit after. Annual Lakes Weekend Our annual Harriers lakes weekend at The Bridge Hotel, Lake Buttermere is from Thursday 3-6 November. Most people arrive on Friday 4th for a relaxed weekend of hill walking, fell and trail running or just relaxing and lots of eating and drinking. Partners welcome or find a room or to share. No single rooms left only 2 x 4 poster rooms at £211 & £221/night Friday & Saturday.
